#BallymoneyRFC

On Saturday 28th September, Ballymoney 4s travelled to Inishowen 2s. The game started slow with consistent penalties and the home side missed a penalty opportunity to take the lead. It wasn't long before Ballymoney put some passage of play together. Securing lineout ball allowed Matthew Dunlop to hit Ryan Brace who dummied Gilan Carruthers in the centre so set Chris Clarke off through a gap, running 40m before offloading to David Hodges who was tackled high on the try line and a penalty try & conversion was awarded. 7-0 to Ballymoney.

The game continued and the forwards proved their experience and strength; it wasn’t long before the visitors scored again from a lineout through Jonny Hanna. Unfortunately the conversion was missed by Brace to take the score to 12-0.
The home side were determined not to let this slip and quick tap penalties moved them into Ballymoney 5m line and a quick change in direction saw them overlapping the blindside to score. They couldn't close the gap any further with the conversion missed.

The game now 12-5 and with not long left in the half, a kick to the corner for a penalty allowed the pack to set the line out, Matthew Dunlop hit Gillan Carruthers crashing through the midfield and managed to get his hand out of the tackles to offload to Brace who scored under the post and added conversion, leaving the first half 19-5 to Ballymoney.

The second half started and with the hosts meaning business, and a few big hits saw Inishowen change personnel, consistent penalties and an irregular quick tap in the Ballymoney 5m line saw Inishowen get full points closing the gap to 19-12. The game was loose and constant slow play and penalties saw Inishowen score in the last five minutes of the game and all was heading for a draw at 19-19.

Ballymoney was in no doubt they had time and a penalty kick by Brace to the corner saw Ballymoney forwards secure line out and last ditch tackles by Inishowen and the thought of a draw was not an option when Gillan Carruthers used the momentum from the pack to hit and spin and get free to score out wide to win the game for Ballymoney with the conversion by Brace saw Ballymoney take home a 26-19 win.
