#BallymoneyRFC

Ballymoney travelled to Randalstown on Saturday for the last game of the league and with a point to prove to remain unbeaten. The day and pitch proved challenging for both sides but the game was hard fought and it was Randalstown who took the lead 5-0 after 15 mins. Ballymoney held their nerve and it wasn’t long before the pack again showed their worth and they drove Randalstown over the line for Sam Bartlett to score a well-deserved try. The conversion was by added by David Hodges to take the score to 5-7. The game was full of errors form both sides with the conditions playing their part; once Ballymoney got settled, playing in the Randalstown 22 it wasn’t long before the forwards set up for a well worked try to see the winger Sam McCracken score out wide another well-deserved try, unfortunately Hodges missed the conversion. At the end of the first half the score was 5-12.

Ballymoney knew the second half was going to be difficult against the wind; a determined home side were out to prove a point and before anyone was aware, a missed pass and a quick-footed Randalstown winger kicked it through to score their second of the day without conversion; 10-12. Ballymoney 4s were up against it, hard and heated tackles saw both side down to 14 men for 10 mins. The game ebbed and flowed and it could have been anyone’s. Ballymoney stood firm and eventually worked their way against the elements to camp in the opposition line and it wasn’t long before Curtis Mongomery took his chance after the sixth phase to crash under the posts; with conversion by Hodges, Ballymoney extended the lead the score now 10-19.

Randalstown were trying to find weakness in the visitor's defence but Ballymoney hit hard and knocked them back; eventually they turned over the ball and after a set phase, the ball was kicked towards the Maine River to the sound of the final whistle. Another superb win on the road for the Toon men and Ballymoney 4s finish the league unbeaten and champions. They now look forward to the Butler Shield Final on 5th April at Kilraughts Road.
